If Blanton had survived his time in the Pacific, then he would have earned two medals that included the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign medal and the World War II Victory medal.
The Asiatic-Pacific Campaign medal was awarded to soldiers who served in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater during 1941 to 1945. Blanton served in the Pacific as the Battle of Peleliu is a Pacific island.
The World War II Victory medal was awarded to all servicemen who served in the military during 7 December 1941 and 31 December 1946.
Unfortunately, Blanton did not live past the Battle of Peleliu and was then honored with the Purple Heart. The Purple Heart is awarded to any serviceman who is wounded or killed during military action.
